Street Soccer first received funding from Postcode Lottery players in 2016, which went towards the expansion of our sessions outside of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee into Renfrewshire and Inverclyde. This funding enabled a huge amount to a growing organisation with mainly part time and volunteer coaches.
In 2018, Street Soccer CEO and Founder David was awarded a Rising Star Award from Postcode Lottery and the charity was awarded £25,000 in recognition of his leadership. Street Soccer joined the Postcode Active Trust, receiving a regular unrestricted award in 2024.
10 years since our first funding amount thanks to Postcode Lottery players, we feel very privileged to still be receiving their support. Postcode Lottery players have raised almost £2million for us over the years, an incredible amount. The legacy of that initial grant continues, with those sessions in Greenock and Paisley still supporting isolated and excluded people through the power of football every week.
Postcode Lottery players have enabled us to do so much in communities across Scotland and now in London as well. Their funding now supports a quarter of our delivery, directly impacting over 600 isolated and disadvantaged people a year. Since Postcode Lottery players began supporting Street Soccer, we’ve welcomed 240,000 attendees to sessions and tournaments. Thanks to their support, people have felt part of a team and been able to access support almost a quarter of a million times.
One of our players recently described Street Soccer: “[it’s] unique because it’s about people first and football second. It uses the game as a way to bring people together who might otherwise feel pushed to the margins, giving them a safe, welcoming space where they’re treated with respect and understanding. What really stands out is the genuine support around the football — helping people rebuild confidence, improve their wellbeing, and take small but meaningful steps forward in their lives. It doesn’t just offer a place to play; it offers connection, purpose, and the feeling that someone believes in you.”
