Street Soccer Scotland has today launched its inaugural Livingston Community Network event, bringing together community and business groups in the Central Scotland region.
The event was created to showcase the work Street Soccer undertakes in the region and highlight opportunities for future support, as Street Soccer aims to continue to use football to promote positive change and support those affected by social exclusion, providing a safe space, a sense of purpose, and access to new opportunities.
The session saw over 30 local business and community members take part in a networking session, followed by a thought-provoking conversation with Livingston FC Manager David Martindale and Street Soccer Chief Operating Officer Gerry Britton.
In attendance at the event were representatives from local organisations such as ScotRail, Scottish Football Association, Livingston FC, Schuh, West Lothian Council, West Lothian College, Rock Trust, Andy’s Man Club, Food Creations, Open Door Scotland and Mitsubishi Electric.
“We’re seeing demand continue to increase so it’s fantastic to see so many business and community leaders in our area come together to show their support for Street Soccer,” Britton said.
“We launched the Livingston Community Network as a way to come together to share ideas, engage with our community and show our network just how much impact they can have by supporting Street Soccer and our programs.
“There are so many ways you can be involved with Street Soccer, and we are always open to new opportunities, so we would encourage anyone interested to get in touch with us.”
In Livingston alone, Street Soccer has delivered over 200 ‘drop-in’ football sessions, supporting over 3,000 attendees since 2021.
89% of players feel Street Soccer has improved their wellbeing and health, while 82% of players are more hopeful about the future.
Street Soccer’s Livingston drop-in session forms part of the Street Soccer Network programme, which aims to deliver football sessions in less-connected areas outside major city hubs.
