Street Soccer will continue one of its longest-running traditions in 2025, once again hosting its annual Christmas Day session at Leith Links.
A time of year usually associated with joy and togetherness, Christmas can be one of the most isolating times for Street Soccer players facing social disadvantage.
This has led Street Soccer to host an annual festive football event on Christmas Day for its players, hosted at various locations including Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee.
This year’s event will kick off at 10:00am at Leith Links in Edinburgh, and will include a combination of football activities, games, gift giving and a Christmas meal post-session.
Street Soccer Founder & CEO David Duke MBE said the event was an important tradition for the organisation to give back to its players.
“We always put our players first at Street Soccer, and our Christmas Day sessions are an amazing way for us to support those that may be feeling lonely or isolated at Christmas time,” Duke said.
“Regardless of who you are or where you come from, no-one should be alone at this time of year. It can be quite a hard time of year especially if you have been through trauma or heartbreak and you’re maybe missing loved ones.
“The session is free to anyone who wants to come along, so we would highly encourage the community to come out and get into the festive spirit with our players.”
The Leith Links sessions is supported by community organisations Crisis, Leith Athletic FC and FareShare, kindly donating items for gift bags, meals and facilities.
In 2025, Street Soccer has supported its players with over 10,000 hours of free and inclusive football and personal development, across more than 3,000 sessions delivered nationwide across Scotland and also in London.
