Street Soccer Scotland marked its 17th birthday in style yesterday with its annual Birthday Cup – a celebratory football tournament that continues to showcase the power of the game to bring people together.
This year’s event was once again dedicated to former Street Soccer coach and Rangers and Scotland defender Ally Dawson, who sadly passed away in 2021. With Ally’s family in attendance, it was a meaningful opportunity to honour his legacy and lasting impact on the Street Soccer community.
The Birthday Cup welcomed over 35 teams and more than 300 players from across Scotland, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, West Dunbartonshire, Central, Fife, and Ayrshire. Bringing together participants from all regions, the tournament created a powerful sense of connection, inclusion, and community through football.

The event stands as a testament to the continued growth of Street Soccer Scotland, which has supported over 22,000 players since 2009 through free football sessions designed to inspire positive change.
A fantastic atmosphere was created throughout the day, with a live DJ keeping energy levels high from start to finish.
Players were able to enjoy refreshments provided by Amazon and Tunnock’s, ensuring everyone stayed fuelled across a full day of football. The Kitback collection was available, giving players the opportunity to take away items of kit including tops, shorts, socks, and hats.
Travel to and from the tournament was made possible thanks to the support of ScotRail, while Powerleague provided an excellent venue for the day’s matches.
Most importantly, the players themselves made the day truly special. From the first whistle to the final game, there was a clear sense of camaraderie, enjoyment, and pride. Every participant played their part in creating a positive and uplifting environment, with smiles both on and off the pitch.
The event was proudly supported by partners and sponsors including Burness Paul, Wheatley Group, Scot JCB, sportscotland, The Hunter Foundation, The National Lottery Community Fund, and JR Scaffolding. Representatives were in attendance to present medals and trophies, alongside special guest Ryan Christie.
A memorable day for all involved!
